Make Your Own Cheap Ice Pack

This simple "recipe" can make a great ice pack that conforms to your injured area because it is not a solid ice block, but more of a "slushie" consistency.

They last about 6 months.  As the alcohol evaporates from the bag, it will freeze harder and more like typical ice.  You can empty the pack and put in more water/alcohol as needed.  (Reuse the baggies unless they have holes... stay "green"!)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol)

Pour above ingredients into a zippered plastic freezer bag.  Seal the bag with minimum air.  Place bag in second freezer plastic bag to prevent leakage.  Freeze overnight.  Re-freeze as needed.
