Circumcision

Our physicians usually perform circumcisions for newborn males in the hospital.  If a circumcision is delayed, we may do this procedure in the office.  This will be discussed at an office appointment.

Dr. Blum is a certified Mohel.  If you desire these services, please contact Dr. Blum to arrange a Bris.

Circumcision is commonly performed in the newborn period.  This is an elective procedure.  Parents may decide whether or not to have their son circumcised.  It is a debated subject and the American Academy of Pediatrics does not have a firm position.  We will leave the decision up to parents entirely.  Evidence suggests that a circumcision can protect against urinary tract infections in the first year of life and sexually transmitted diseases in the future.

If you choose to circumcise your son, please read more about how we do the procedure and how to care for the cirucmcised penis on our circumcision page.

If you choose to not circumcise your son, please read about the care of the uncircumcised penis.
